On April 24, Tuesday at 7PM, students at UC Irvine had the honor of meeting Director Christine Yoo and actress Nancy Lee at the “Wedding Palace” Behind the Scenes and Q&A Panel event.

“Wedding Palace” is a family comedy that is also the first independent US-KOR film production. This ambitious project boasts a star-studded cast, including Brian Tee (Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift), Kang Hye-Jung (Old Boy), as well as Bobby Lee and Margaret Cho.

The Asian Pacific Student Association and Konnect: Korean Cultural Awareness Group was lucky enough to host the first look at the behind the scenes documentary of “Wedding Palace” as well host a panel with Nancy Lee, who is a part of the cast and also an alumni of UC Irvine (Zot! Zot!). Director Christine Yoo talked about the obstacles encountered during the filming of the movie, from budgetary issues to differences in work styles. However, she also noted the positives on working on this film, from the cast to the support that the Korean small business community gave to the movie.

Nancy spoke to her experience as an actress and the difficulties as an Asian American woman trying to make it big in Hollywood. She also spoke about how she became involved in the movie – a purely lucky encounter with Christine! They even created the role just for Nancy!

We can already tell that this film is phenomenal and hilarious and can’t wait until it releases in theaters in the fall! Look out for the final release date during the summer – we hear there will definitely be a screening in Irvine!
